Dr Vilallonga has a Doctorate in Medicine and Surgery from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and is a specialist in General and Gastrointestinal Surgery. As a member of the Board of the Faculty of Medicine at the UAB he is a professor in practice in the Department of Surgery.

Dr Vilallonga is currently Secretary of the Spanish Obesity Surgery Society(SECO) and plays an active part in the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO) as a member of the New Technology Committee. In addition, he holds the expert diploma, is a SECO trainer and is a recognised doctor on the Top Doctors website.

His academic training began when he was admitted to the Licentiate (advanced bachelor’s) degree programme in Medicine and Surgery at Rovira i Virgili University, completing his undergraduate studies in 2002 in the Faculty of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona. During those years he participated in medical volunteer and cooperation projects. He underwent his surgical training at the Vall d’Hebron Hospital in Barcelona, where he was trained in all aspects of laparoscopic surgery. In 2006 he obtained his doctorate, for which he was awarded a special academic prize.

Having published a book on revision surgery in obesity, as well as numerous articles and studies, Dr Vilallonga has experience in international institutions as a surgeon and researcher in the field of morbid obesity surgery, and his lines of research are closely related to non-invasive surgery, new technologies and robotics. He subsequently worked at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida (USA) and in Belgium, where he was trained in advanced laparoscopic, endocrine and robotic surgery.

As a clinician, he is an expert in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery. Dr Vilallonga has worked with the latest technologies in the management of endocrine conditions and obesity. He is a specialist in revision surgery for patients with morbid and extreme obesity. He has also treated patients of extreme ages with obesity problems.
